The concept for my 'Remnant
Dairy' series came
about after I kept noticing identical
old buildings on
various roadsides in the area. While a few dairies are still in use
and had been renovated or even replaced, a lot were just abandoned.
After some anecdotal research (my 86 year
old
father was
born in the area) I
learned some history. The properties these dairies are on were
acquired by the Government for
WW1
& WW2 Soldier
Settlers.
Each property had an identical house and a dairy.
I'm
interested in
how the
past is written on the weathered surfaces of these basic functional
buildings, giving a sense of history just as relevant as fine
architectural detail.
