The HULL 120cm x 120cm acrylic on canvas

My HULL series stems from my interest in the character of old wooden boat hulls, often upturned and abandoned but always with a sense of history and experience written on their weathered surfaces.

'Remnant Dairy' 1mx1m acrylic first prize Birregurra Art Show

The idea for my 'Remnant Dairy' series came about after I kept noticing identical old buildings on various roadsides in the area. While a few dairies were still in use and had been renovated or even replaced a lot were just abandoned. After some anecdotal research (my 85 year old father was born in the area) I learned some history. The properties these dairies were on were acquired by the Government for WW1 & WW2 Soldier Settlers. Each property had an identical house and a dairy.
I'm interested in how the past is written on the weathered surfaces of these basic functional buildings, giving just as much a sense of history as fine architectural detail.
